Children learn best through active, hands-on play. At Colors of the Rainbow, that play is the work of the day. Children explore materials, investigate how things fit and move, and interact with ideas that spark curiosity and imagination. Our curriculum is aligned with New Jersey early learning standards, so the play has purpose behind it.
Rooms are set up so children can choose: blocks to stack, art supplies to test, books to page through. Teachers kneel at eye level, ask what a child is making, and add a question that stretches the thinking. Small groups keep things calm. Art, music, and collaborative play build social skills, language, and fine and gross motor control.
The learning here is not left to chance. Our developmentally appropriate curriculum is aligned with New Jersey early learning standards, so the play in each room supports meaningful early learning experiences. What you notice in practice
Teachers here get down to the child's level and stay curious about what the child is doing. When a child stacks blocks, a teacher might wonder aloud what happens if the tower goes higher. When a child paints, the teacher might ask about the colors chosen. This kind of back-and-forth builds language, thinking, and confidence.
Rooms are arranged in zones: blocks, books, art, quiet corners. Children move between them as their attention shifts. Teachers watch for the moment focus fades, then guide a small group or suggest a new material. The day has a rhythm, with active play, meals, rest, and calm activities, so children always know what comes next.
How we work with families
At pickup, you sign your child out and a teacher can tell you how the day went. Ask about nap, meals, a new word, a friend. Questions get answered as they come up. Sign your child in each morning and make sure a staff member sees them before you go. We work closely with families.
